‘Heroes Tribute’ Scholarship Established by ADA University

On April 29 in ADA University held a Graduation Ceremony and launched a scholarship program title "Citizenship and Social Responsibility: heroes are not forgotten" at Gulustan Palace, Baku. First Lady of Azerbaijan, President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Mehriban Aliyeva was the key note speaker of the event. The issue of victims of the recent clashes on the frontline was at the heart of the event. The memory of the heroes was commemorated by a minute of silence.

The Vice Rector Dr. Emin Huseynov, talked about the uniqueness of the event as first undergraduate cohorts of 58 students were graduating. They were also joined by graduating cohort of 29 MA students. He congratulated the entire passing out graduates.

Senior Vice Rector, Mr. Galib Mammad, also congratulated the graduating students. He than talked about the violation of the ceasefire agreement by Armenian troops and four-day tensions in the beginning of April. As a result of the clashes, Azerbaijani army managed to get control over number of strategic heights and settlements. However, regrettably, the country lost lots of brave soldiers. He also talked about the scholarship fund, which had been established at ADA University to help educate the children of those who died for their country. He also mentioned that within two weeks 1 340 178 AZN was raised by donations for this purpose. ADA University would add 1 200 000 AZN, and thus the funds raised for this scholarship reach 2.5 million AZN. Mr. Mammad said that by the end of the year this sum is expected to become 3 million AZN. This is the largest scholarship fund raised at the university. Mr. Mammad expressed his deep gratitude to those who made generous contribution towards the Scholarship Fund.

Following the tradition of our nation,  at the end of each academic year, ADA University presents an important award named after Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev to its students. This year's winners were chosen from 22 projects.

Academician Dr. Roald Sagdeev also congratulated the 10th anniversary of the ADA University and the newly graduated students.

Rector Dr. Hafiz Pashayev addressed the event and congratulated the graduating classes. He talked about the symbolic meaning of the venue of the event by mentioning that  the “Contract of the Century” was signed in Gulustan palace in September 1994. The grounds for further development and strengthening of independence were laid down in this particular venue and,  as a result, the country’s “black gold” is turning  into “human gold”.  

The First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva , in her speech, also  congratulated the graduated students and their families. She stressed the efforts being made by  the government to develop the education sector of the country. She highlighted that  the strength of every nation is its human potential.
