WORKSHOP RATIONALE
The UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) were agreed upon in 2015 to inspire the transition towards more just, resilient, and sustainable agricultural and food systems over the coming decades. The transformation of the food system is now emphasized also by COP29 that will take place in Azerbaijan in November 2024. The collaborative workshop “TOWARDS 2050: THE FUTURE OF AGRICULTURAL AND FOOD SCIENCES IN AZERBAIJAN” aims to set the state of the art of the scientific sector serving as platform for discussion while promoting the dialogue with industry and policy and addressing the current and future challenges.
More specifically the collaborative workshop will:
• offer a comprehensive overview of the current state of agriculture and food sciences, emphasizing the latest advancements, challenges, and innovations in sustainable farming, animal science, food processing, and agricultural and food management;
• bring together young scientists and experts in the field, fostering collaboration, and providing a platform for knowledge exchange among emerging talents and experienced professionals;
• serve as a hub for industry updates, where attendees can gain valuable insights into the latest trends, technologies, and breakthroughs in agriculture and food sciences, ensuring that participants are well-informed about the cutting-edge developments in the field.
By examining the past, present, and future and uniting experts across generations and providing access to industry updates, this seminar aims to foster a holistic understanding of this vital field and inspire actionable insights for a more sustainable and nutritious future. Workshop language is English.
The collaborative workshop is open to researchers, professionals and practictioners and is intended to engage a wide audience from a variety of scientific disciplines. Given this ambition participants are recommended to avoid jargon and use a plain and inclusive language. References to method are welcome however an excess of narrow methodological details should be avoided.
Generally contributions should not look at the agricultural and scientific sector as they are today but should:
1) reflect about the implications of their field of study for the future of the sector with a special focus on Azerbaijan;
2) discuss a problem /challenge that might have a significant impact on the sector in the incoming years.
SECTIONS
The collaborative workshop will be organized around four sections targeting different areas of agricultural and food sciences.
Section 1 will focus on Agricultural Science including:
• plant production;
• plant protection;
• agricultural machinery and precision farming;
• agricultural water management;
• soil protection and amelioration.
Section 2 will focus on Animal Science including:
• genetic and environmental factors that act on livestock production;
• conventional and non-conventional production systems;
• quality control of livestock products.
Section 3 will focus on Food Science including:
• raw materials for food production;
• food processing;
• food safety;
• food packaging and preservation;
• food logistics and transportation.
Section 4 will focus on Agricultural and Food Systems Management including:
• agricultural and food economics and policy;
• rural development;
• supply chain analysis;
• innovation management;
• consumer behavior in the framework of sustainable and healthy diets;
• global marketing and trade.
SEMINAR STRUCTURE
The seminar will be organized in a plenary session. All the participants will present their research work in the form of ORAL presentation in English.
ADMISSION CRITERIA
• Young scientists with MSc or PhD, or researchers and professionals with proven experience in related fields;
• Proficiency in English as the conference is conducted exclusively in English:

• Submission of a 500 word abstract on relevant topics Submission of a PPT presentation. More information on PPT will be provided after June 10.
HOW TO STRUCTURE THE ABSTRACT
The following elements should be always addressed:
• Purpose: This is where you explain ‘why’ the topic you selected is important and deserves to be considered;
• Study design/methodology/approach: This is about the tools, methods, protocols or datasets you employed to carry out the work;
• Findings: Here you can explain ‘what’ you found during your study;
• Originality/value: This is your opportunity to make a clear and succinct case for the value of your results. This is the most important section.

• Deadline for registration is 10 June 2024 (application form, CV and copy of National ID)
• Deadline for abstract submission is 22 June 2024
• Deadline for PPT submission is 24 June 2024
